➀Purpose
When finishing machined surfaces after electrical discharge machining (EDM), it is not always possible to replace this process with conventional machining due to the workpiece’s shape and the specific areas that require polishing. Furthermore, manual polishing requires technical skill and is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, which we aim to improve.
②Key Points for Implementation

1) Mirror-finish polishing is achieved by propelling special elastic abrasive particles using the centrifugal force of an impeller.
2) Capable of polishing three-dimensional shapes and ultra-thin materials.
3) Since it is a dry polishing process, post-processing cleaning of the workpiece and machine maintenance are simple.
4) Capable of processing not only metals but also non-ferrous materials such as acrylic and glass.

③Examples
Performing mirror polishing on surfaces after wire EDM

④Results
・We were able to achieve a mirror finish with a surface roughness of Ra 0.335 μm on the EDM-machined surface.
・These results were achieved even by operators who were not highly skilled.
