➀Purpose
In the past, when inspecting product shapes, we would superimpose the workpiece onto a drawing printed on chart paper using a projector
and make a pass/fail determination by visual inspection.
However, this method tended to be time-consuming
and was prone to issues such as inaccuracies and variations between operators.
②Key Points for Implementation
The system we have recently introduced is a digital projector equipped with a CCD camera capable of comparing images with CAD data.
It streamlines and automates the inspection process through the following features:
・A wide-angle, high-resolution camera with a field of view of 31 mm × 21 mm allows for a clear view of the entire workpiece
・A verification function that automatically compares and measures the edges of the actual workpiece against CAD data
・The ability to set numerical pass/fail criteria helps minimize inspection variability

③Examples
The workpiece is placed on the stage and compared with pre-prepared CAD data.
Based on predefined criteria (thresholds),
the system can now automatically measure dimensional deviations and determine whether the part passes or fails.
Furthermore, operator intervention is kept to a minimum, ensuring that anyone can perform evaluations using the same standards.

④Results
Previously, inspection work involved visually checking shapes by overlaying chart paper and workpieces;
however, by implementing automatic measurement functions and comparing results with CAD data, we have reduced the required work time by approximately 30%.
Furthermore, the need to create chart paper has been eliminated, contributing to an overall reduction in man-hours.
